I work as a dentist but love to play my Bass trombone. For 35 years I played a Holton TR180 double trigger trombone, but traded it in for a Rath R9 DST bass trombone a few years ago. I am so pleased I change and have felt my sound has improved a lot since I did. I have also been informed by other trombonists that they can hear a difference too. I really don’t do it justice as I don’t play it enough. I did my ARCM performers diploma in the late 70’s when I was taking lessons from
Frank Mathison. He made me reslise that being a good amateur, rather than a poor professional (as he put it ) would be my best future. I certainly realised I could never be in his league, even with copious practice.
I enjoy playing as part of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestras Rusties project, and would love to play in more orchestral concerts. However, my practice is incredibly busy, so at the moment I cannot dedicate enough time. |
