Anthony Williams is currently Director of Jazz Studies/Low Brass at the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota.
He maintains a high volume of performing in classical and jazz settings, private instruction, and directing student ensembles. Before becoming Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Mary, he worked as Director of Jazz Studies at The LeMoyne-Owen College in Memphis,TN. He has performed with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, University of Memphis Faculty Jazz Players, South Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, Conway Symphony Orchestra, Memphis Jazz Orchestra, Jazz Orchestra of the Delta, and the Sanctuary Jazz Orchestra.
As an educator, Mr. Williams maintains a large studio of talented young low-brass players from the Memphis area. He is also active as a low-brass and jazz clinician for summer music camps in the Mid-South area.
Past positions include principal trombone of the Dubuque Symphony and member of Chris Merz's X-tet. His past studies include a B.M. from the University of Central Arkansas and M.M. from the University of Northern Iowa where he recorded several albums as lead trombonist of the award-winning University Of Northern Iowa Jazz Band One. He is currently in the final stages of completing his DMA at the University of Memphis.
During his career he has had the pleasure of performing with artists and ensembles such as the Ray Charles Orchestra, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, Chris Merz's X-tet, Dave Lisik Jazz Orchestra, Slide Hampton, James Miller, Mike Fahn, Peter Erskine, Cuong Vu, Carl Wolfe, Rufus Reid, Roy McCurdy, John Mayer, Clark Terry, David Sanchez, Chris Vadala, Jack Wilkins, Bill Tole, Mark Helias, Donald Brown, Tom Giampietro, Ben Monder, Jim Cullum, Mike Fahn, and Luis Bonilla.
Mr. Williams has appeared as a guest artist at the 2008 Electro-acoustic Juke Joint at Delta State University, with The University of Memphis Wind Ensemble (2007 and 2009), and the Mason City High School Jazz Ensemble. He is a Conn/Selmer Artist/Clinician and plays Giddings and Webster Mouthpieces. |
