A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Dennis Wilson began his professional career with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra as trombonist, arranger, and Musical Director. A former Assistant Dean for the College of Arts and Sciences at Kansas State University, Dennis Wilson is presently a professor of jazz at the University of Michigan, School of Music. He has been a lead/solo trombonist for the Dizzy Gillespie Big Band, and for ten years with Mr. William "Count" Basie and his Orchestra. He served as the lead trombonist for the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band directed by Jon Faddis. He received a Grammy Award nomination for vocal arrangements created for The Manhattan Transfer. A subject of biographical reference in both "Who's Who in Education" Wilson is highly involved in teaching and is currently instructing the students at the Detroit School of the Arts. In 2001 Wilson became the first the Artist in Residence for the San Jose Jazz Society. For the past three years he leads the Detroit Jazz Festival Orchestra and is the composer of all the festivals finales. |
