I am currently professor of trombone at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama, Glasgow - where I also teach sackbut. I began my career in London in the 1980's as an orchestral and commercial freelancer, but gradually established myself as a concert soloist specialising in contemporary music. I have given recitals in over 50 nations, and also compose music for the concert platform, stage, and film. I have always enjoyed "mixing it" and take delight in moving between ancient music, contemporary music, and improvised forms. Living in Scotland, I have also become deeply involved in the traditional music world, both at home and internationally. Over the past 15 years I have also done a great deal of work with music archaeology, collaborating with the national museums of Scotland, Wales and Ireland.
